How to convert mph, km/h, m/s and knots
Speed is distance over time, so converting speeds is really just converting the distance units. The anchor is 1 mph = 1.60934 km/h. For scientific work, m/s is standard (1 m/s = 3.6 km/h), and for sea and air travel, knots are used (1 knot = 1.852 km/h). This converter shows all of them at once.
The formulas
- mph → km/h: km/h = mph × 1.60934
- km/h → mph: mph = km/h ÷ 1.60934
- km/h → m/s: m/s = km/h ÷ 3.6
- knots → km/h: km/h = knots × 1.852

Quick examples
100 km/h = 62.1 mph = 27.8 m/s (typical highway speed). 60 mph = 96.6 km/h. 10 km/h = 6.2 mph (a brisk run). A quick mental trick for km/h→mph: multiply by 0.6.
What is a knot?
A knot is one nautical mile per hour, equal to 1.852 km/h (1.15 mph). It's used in shipping and aviation because a nautical mile matches one minute of latitude, which makes navigation easier. So a boat doing 20 knots is moving at about 37 km/h.
What is 60 mph in km/h?
96.6 km/h. Multiply mph by 1.60934.
What is 120 km/h in mph?
74.6 mph — a common motorway limit in Europe, close to 75 mph.
What is 70 mph in km/h?
112.7 km/h, the UK motorway speed limit.
What is 100 km/h in mph?
100 km/h is about 62.1 mph. Divide 100 by 1.60934 to get 62.14. That's a common highway speed limit outside the US.
How do I convert mph to km/h?
Multiply the mph value by 1.60934. For a quick estimate, add about 60%. So 60 mph ≈ 96.6 km/h. Enter any value above to convert exactly.
How fast is 1 m/s in km/h?
1 meter per second equals 3.6 km/h (and about 2.24 mph). To convert m/s to km/h, multiply by 3.6; to go back, divide by 3.6.
How many mph is a knot?
One knot is about 1.15 mph, or 1.852 km/h. Knots are used for boats and planes because they're based on nautical miles.
What is a good running speed?
A steady jog is around 8–10 km/h (5–6 mph), and a brisk walk is about 5 km/h (3 mph). Working out pace instead? Try the running pace calculator.
