BMR chart by weight and age
Calories burned at complete rest, from the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, at an average height of 175 cm (5โฒ9โณ) for men and 162 cm (5โฒ4โณ) for women. Taller or shorter? Add about 6 calories for every centimetre above that height, or subtract for every centimetre below.

What is BMR?
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body needs to perform its most basic functions โ breathing, circulating blood, and maintaining organs โ if you did absolutely nothing all day. It typically accounts for 60โ70% of the calories you burn.
The Mifflin-St Jeor equation
- Men: 10 ร weight(kg) + 6.25 ร height(cm) โ 5 ร age + 5
- Women: 10 ร weight(kg) + 6.25 ร height(cm) โ 5 ร age โ 161
It's considered the most accurate general BMR formula and is the basis for most modern calorie calculators.
What is a normal BMR?
Most adults fall between about 1,200 and 2,000 calories a day. An 80 kg, 175 cm, 30-year-old man has a BMR of about 1,749; a 65 kg, 162 cm, 30-year-old woman, about 1,352.
Does BMR go down with age?
Yes โ by about 50 calories a day every decade in the Mifflin-St Jeor equation (5 calories per year), if your weight and height stay the same. Losing muscle as you age lowers it further, which strength training helps prevent.
BMR vs TDEE โ what's the difference?
BMR is calories at rest. TDEE is BMR plus everything else you do (walking, working, exercising). TDEE is the number you use to plan meals.
